Featured Artist Suzette Durso

ArtsArlington’s current featured artist is Suzette Durso, whose work combines eco printing and colored pencil drawing inspired by the plants and birds around her home in New England.

Suzette grew up in New York City with a professional artist as her mother and spent time drawing at the Art Students League of New York during high school. She later earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of Fine Arts at Boston University and a master’s degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and went on to teach high school art for over thirty years in drawing, photography, and mixed media.

Her current work grew out of her earlier bookmaking practice, where she created decorative papers using marbling, paste paper, and eco printing. She now uses eco-printed papers as backgrounds for colored pencil drawings of birds native to New England.

Suzette has exhibited her work at the Concord Center for Visual Arts, 6 Bridges Gallery, Gallery Twist, the Rocky Neck Cultural Center, the Danforth Art Museum, the Belmont Gallery of Art, and the Attleboro Arts Museum. She is currently a featured artist at Gallery Twist in Lexington.
