Youth Banners 2023

Celebrating 8 Years

This year, we celebrate the 8th season of the Youth Banner Initiative.
The goal of the Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture Youth Banner Project project is to solicit, promote, and showcase artwork by Arlington middle school and high school art students. The call for original student art culminates as a public art exhibition installation of digitally printed banners in Arlington Center each spring. This project honors the memory of APS student, Gracie James. Funding is generously provided by the Family of Gracie James
The theme for the installation this year is “Connections”. In December we received 150 submissions to the call for art. Sixteen high school students and four middle school students were selected by a panel of art judges.
Judges this year are:
Rocky Cotard, Boston based artist and educator
Lenard Diggins, Chair of the Arlington Select Board
Eva Zasloff, Arlington based artist and mother of three APS students
Leo Muellner, Director of Visual Arts, Arlington Public Schools
Caroline Flynn, Stratton Elementary School Visual Arts Teacher
Molly Atryzek, Peirce Elementary School Visual Arts Teacher
Jonathan Koppel, Arlington High School Visual Arts Teacher
ACAC thanks the family of Gracie James very much for their generous support of this project over these years, this year’s jurors, and our excellent project coordinator, Sarah Gurney.
