The longstanding Pathways series will return to the Minuteman Bikeway this spring, bringing new public art to a space that thousands of residents of all ages enjoy. Local public art pioneers came together last month to work on the 2026 installation. Artist Adria Arch and Arlington Public Art Curator Cecily Miller installed test panels for a sculptural installation on the bridge over Pond Lane planned for the spring. Colorful abstract paintings on large-scale aluminum plates will be mounted on a section of the fencing flanking the bike path between Linwood Street and Swan Place.

The new installation joins a tradition of inspiring and thought-provoking Pathways projects such as Persistence, by Michelle Lougee and Arlington Craftivists, which raises awareness of the impact of single-use plastics; Extraordinary Ordinary Birds, a tribute to neighborhood birds by Resa Blatman, and Flutter, a series of plexiglass butterflies by Claudia Ravaschiere and Michael Moss that call attention to the amazing strength and resilience of these tiny creatures.
Local artist Adria Arch worked closely with the Town of Arlington Planning Department to create Arlington Public Art, a committee that eventually evolved into the current Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture, which she co-chaired for many years. Her work has been exhibited widely in galleries, museums, and collections around the country. Learn more about Adria Arch in our featured artist profile.
