Call for Artists: Live Arts Arlington 2020!

DEADLINE: Monday, February 24, 2020

The Arlington Commission For Arts and Culture has an opportunity for 5-10 artists from across all performance and art forms to “take to the streets” in May and June 2020 to share their art with Arlington residents and visitors as part of LIVE ARTS ARLINGTON. Artists will activate a public space, via performance or demonstration, for two hours at an agreed upon date and time on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. ACAC will provide advance promotion, signage, a volunteer site host, and a $100 stipend. Artists are encouraged to put out a “hat” to collect donations from the public.

Selection Criteria
Artists will be selected based on fit between the artist and the space, and diversity of artistic offering across the program. Once those criteria are addressed, preference will be given to artists who live and/or work in Arlington.

If I get chosen, what do I have to do?

  • Obtain a $12 street performance license from the town of Arlington. With this license you are welcome to busk in Arlington through December 31, 2020.
  • Schedule a time, date and location with ACAC for you/your group to perform/create/share.
  • Provide ACAC with promotional language and photos/video, so we can get the word out.
  • Show up and do your thing!

What happens if it rains?

We find another mutually convenient date and time.

How do I apply?

Please fill out this six-question Google form. We’ve tried to make this step as easy as possible, and we hope it won’t take more than 10-15 minutes to complete. Please complete the form by 11:59pm on Monday, February 24, 2020.

Summary:

Live Arts Arlington (LAA) is a public performance and creation initiative designed to put live arts in the path of the broadest swath of Arlington residents and visitors. Arlington values diversity. We strongly encourage candidates of varied backgrounds, including people of color, persons with disabilities and others to apply. The 2019 LAA pilot included Egyptian dance, puppetry, classical, jazz and popular music performance, portraiture, and basket weaving.
