Fox Festival 2020

THE EPIC ADVENTURES OF FOX AND OWL

Introducing Fox and Owl – paper puppets created by artist Kari Percival – that you can take on an adventure!  We invite you to make art and tell a story with Fox, Owl, and any characters you invent yourself for the FOX & OWL TINY FILM & PHOTO FESTIVAL later this the summer!
Everything you need is right here on this website and in your own imagination. Fox and Owl can have a fantastic adventure in your kitchen, backyard, during a family outing, or in a shoebox theater that you make yourself.

FIRST

Download, print, and cut out our Fox and Owl paper puppets. Make additional characters if you want, or use toys or other objects.

You can put on a puppet show for your family or share your adventure with all of Arlington! There are three projects on this page that you can do with our paper puppets.  Color them in, cut them out, put them on a stick, and you are ready to go! MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PUPPETS

NEXT STEPS: IT’S UP TO YOU! CHECK OUT FOUR PROJECTS BELOW.

Make a short (20 seconds to one minute) video with our paper puppets for our FOX & OWL TINY FILM & PHOTO FESTIVAL later this summer.   Your video will be shown with videos made by other people in Arlington and beyond – get your friends involved!  Watch this sample by artist Sara Peattie, who used a homemade toy theater to take Fox and Owl on 3 super short adventures. You don’t have to use a toy theater; watch Kari Percival’s video made in her own back yard on our GET INSPIRED page!  MORE ABOUT MAKING VIDEOS

TAKE A PHOTO!

We all take photos to capture a moment or tell a story.  Think about your Fox and Owl.  Where would they go?  Who will they meet? What would they do?  Send in your photos so we can make them part of our FOX & OWL TINY FILM & PHOTO FESTIVAL later this summer.   MORE ABOUT PHOTOS

MAKE WINDOW ART!

We’re calling this: Fox and Owl say hello! Make art featuring Fox and Owl for your window, front door or porch.  Put Fox and Owl in a painting, drawing, collage or even sculpture. Add a message from Fox and Owl for your neighbors to see. This is a great project to make by hand. MORE ABOUT WINDOW ART

MAKE A TINY THEATER!

Many puppeteers like to use a tiny theater to create a complete world to tell their stories. MORE ABOUT MAKING A TINY THEATER

WHAT IS THE FOX FESTIVAL?

THE EPIC ADVENTURES OF FOX AND OWL continues the Fox Festival, a celebration of the Fox Library, our great community, creativity, our animal neighbors and the environment! The FOX has been our mascot for four years.  OWL joined our team in May when we interviewed Diane Welch, Arlington’s great Animal Control officer, and met her owl. Diane adopted Nuala – a Great Horned Owl – as a tiny owlet and now Nuala is Arlington’s animal ambassador. Learn more by watching our video interviews with Diane.
