Philharmonic Society of Arlington: Almost-Spring Concert “A Game of Pairs”

Arlington-Belmont Chorale and Arlington-Belmont Chamber Chorus. A concert of five poems set to music by two different composers: 1. “Sure on this Shining Night,” 1934 poem by James Agee, composers Samuel Barber (1940) and Morten Lauridsen (2005); 2. “Music, When Soft Voices Die,” poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley, composers Hubert Parry (1897) and Charles Wood (1915); 3. “Ubi Caritas,” early Christian text, interpreted by Maurice Duruflé (1960) and Ola Gjeilo (2007); 4. “Reconciliation” by Walt Whitman, interpreted by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1936) and Stephen Chatman (1997); 5. Mozart’s “Missa Brevis in D,” K.194 and newly commissioned work “Missa Brevis” by the Chorale’s Music Director Barry Singer.
