Arlington Center for the Arts (ACA) celebrated Juneteenth 2021 with a new program – Teen Artists on the Issues. This 3-day workshop brought local youth together for intensive work with teaching artists, focusing on the issues they say matter most to them, including racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, environmental justice, Women’s rights, and immigration.
Participating teens worked in a collaborative environment, expressing their thoughts, hearing from their peers, and making art that communicates ideas beyond the bounds of language. As a culminating activity, the teens installed their work in our gallery, asserting their personal perspectives about the world today and imagining a more just future for all.
This project was made possible with a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
