Annual Art Auction Goes Virtual to Support Town Public Art

Chairful Where You Sit, a one-day outdoor art installation and fundraiser for the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture, traditionally coincides with Porchfest and takes place in a festive gathering at historic Uncle Sam Plaza, in the heart of the Arlington Center Cultural District. An auction of artistically transformed chairs and other small furniture items rescued from basements and curbs has supported public art in Arlington since 2012, and the event has rescued more than 400 chairs from the landfill. New for 2020 — we’re accepting artistically revamped small furniture items like side tables in addition to chairs!

Due to Covid-19, the event originally planned for June 7, 2020, has been postponed and re-envisioned as an online event. Planners continue to invite submissions to be displayed in an online auction format during the week of August 24 through September 7.

Everyone is invited to participate. Want to create furniture art for 2020 Chairful Where you Sit? Read the Call for Artists FAQ for information to get started!

Want to buy furniture art and support the kind of community-based work recently touted by MassCreative as “The kind of engagement [that] motivates us to promote the importance of the arts & culture in connecting communities and creating joy through public art for all”?

Then be sure to visit and bid on your favorites August 24-September 7 at ArtsArlington.org!
